Real Santa Clara

(Royal Santa Clara)

Real Santa Clara was founded in 1984 as a competitive amateur team for men over 35 years of age in Silicon Valley, California. Since the founding of the team, it has been sponsored by Ca Custom of Santa Clara.

In 1992 Santa Clara Sporting Club, a youth soccer organization, invited the team to join them as part of their plan to expand into adult soccer. Over the next 15 years, the team played under the name of Santa Clara Sporting and won several league championships in the Over 35 South Bay Adult Soccer League.

When South Bay Adult Soccer League added an Over 50 men division in 2000, using our former Over 35 players as the nucleus, we formed a team to join the Over 50 league. Before the Over 50 division was inaugurated, our older players had been playing informally with other teams (of similar ages).

In 2007, due to Santa Clara Sporting Club’s decision to concentrate on their original focus of youth soccer only, our teams became independent again and returned to the original name. Currently the Over 35 team plays in the California International Soccer League.

During the last few years, the senior soccer tournaments through out the country have added Over 60 soccer divisions. The San Francisco Bay Area teams, with our former Over 35 and Over 50 players, had participated regularly in these tournaments. We plan to have a team for the Over 60 division when a league is officially formed in the Bay Area. Our goal is to provide opportunities for players who have the desire to continue playing soccer no matter what age they are as long as they are willing and able.
